Paola has two decades of teaching experience in architecture and computational design. Paola received a Bachelor of Architecture at the University of Kansas, a Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University, and a PhD from the Georgia Institute of Technology, specializing in High Performance Buildings and Design Computation. Paola worked in Prof. Chuck Eastman\u2019s Digital Building Laboratory, developing tools to automate data exchanges between building-information models and simulation models. Her current research focuses on energy efficient 3D-printed construction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paola has been recognized for her excellence in teaching, including DesignIntelligence's most admired educators in 2014. Her passion is mentoring students and supporting the participation of underrepresented groups in her area of expertise: building simulation, robotic fabrication and virtual reality in architecture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She has an active BIM consulting practice. Since 2011 Randy has authored six books, most recently Convergence: The Redesign of Design (AD, 2017); Superusers: Design Technology Specialists and the Future of Practice (Routledge, 2019), Think Like An Architect: How to develop critical, creative and collaborative problem-solving skills (RIBA, 2020) and Adapt As an Architect: A Midcareer Companion (RIBA, 2021,) the last two written and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published during the pandemic. In addition to teaching at University of Illinois at Chicago\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">starting in 2001 and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign starting in 2012, until 2019 Randy\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">served as Associate Director for Graduate Studies in the School of Architecture. Randy\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">previously served on AIA Chicago Board as Director and Vice President; on ARCHITECT\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Magazine\u2019s 2018 R+D jury; and led an annual Executive Education program at Harvard GSD.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Randy is currently part of a team that received an NSF Grant and DPI Seed Grant for planning a\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">first-of-its-kind Institute for the application of AI in design, construction and operations of\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">buildings and infrastructure. She graduated with a Bachelor in Portuguese and English Language and with a Ph.D. in Literary Theory from the Pontifical Catholic University of S\u00e3o Paulo (PUCSP) in 1973. Dr. Lucia Santaella <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">became Full Professor in Communication Sciences at ECA\/USP in 1993, and she currently <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is full Professor of the Graduate Program in Communication and Semiotics at PUCSP<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. She is the Coordinator of the Graduate Studies <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Program in Digital Design Intelligence and Technologies, Director of the Center for Research in Digital Media (CIMID) and Coordinator of the Peircean Studies Center at PUCSP. She has published 51 books, six of which are co-authored and two are from critical studies. Lucia has also been editor of 26 books. In addition, Lucia Santaella has published nearly 500 articles in scientific journals in Brazil and internationally. In 1986, he graduated from Miami University of Ohio with Bachelor of Environmental Design and Bachelor of Philosophy degrees and in 1988 he graduated from Princeton University with a Master of Architecture degree.\u00a0 He is the founder and owner of Greg Lynn FORM.\u00a0 He has served on numerous advisory boards and is co-Founder and CEO of the robotic company Piaggio Fast Forward.\u00a0 He won a Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale of Architecture and represented the United States in the American Pavilion at the Venice Biennale of Architecture twice.\u00a0 His architectural work is in the permanent collections of museums including the CCA, SFMoMA, ICA Chicago and MoMA and\u00a0 his Alessi \u201cSupple\u201d Mocha Cups and his Vitra \u201cRavioli\u201d Chair have been inducted into the Museum of Modern Art\u2019s Permanent Collection. He received the American Academy of Arts &amp; Letters Architecture Award, is the recipient of a Red Dot Best of the Best Design Award, and was awarded a fellowship from United States Artists.\u00a0 He is an o. Duarte (Lic Arch UT Lisbon 1987, SMArchS 1993 and PhD MIT 2001) is the Stuckeman Chair in Design Innovation and director of the Stuckeman Center for Design Computing at Penn State, where he is Professor of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, and Affiliate Professor of Architectural Engineering and Engineering Design. Dr. Duarte was co-founder of the Penn State Additive Construction Laboratory (AddCon Lab) and his research interests are in the use of digital technology to design and make mass customized affordable housing.
